New licences, renewals and tags

The 2026 published annual fees are $34.50 for a dog and $23.50 for a cat. The late-renewal fee is $11.50. HST does not apply. Recognised assistance or enforcement working dogs have a zero-dollar category with certificate proof. Licences are final sale and not refundable.

Tags are issued for the pet’s lifetime, so annual renewal does not produce a new tag. To renew online, use the Bill Number and Folder Number at the top right of the renewal notice. Pet-information changes cannot be made through the renewal screen; contact the city instead.

Moves, replacements and help

If you moved to Markham in the last 30 days, the city offers a no-cost exchange of another city’s licence. A lost-tag replacement costs $6. Call 905-477-7000 extension 5530 to request a replacement or change information.

Animal Services officers are listed as available daily, including weekends and holidays, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Calls outside those hours are handled the next day. Licensing also supports identification and the city’s Free Ride Home service when an officer finds a licensed pet.
