New October 2026 rules

Ordinary street parking is prohibited between 2:30 and 6 a.m. unless signs allow it. The daily exemption is for occasional needs such as driveway repairs or overnight visitors. Every plate received a new ten-exemption allocation on October 1, 2026, with future resets at the start of each calendar year.

Exemptions approved before October 1 at 9 a.m. remain valid without the new processing fee. Daytime parking remains free where it is otherwise permitted. A profile lets applicants submit several requests and track use. Check that the confirmation email contains correct vehicle and date details.

When an exemption will not protect the vehicle

Exemptions are invalid during snow clearing or winter maintenance. Operations can begin with snowfall and continue for up to the next 24 hours; vehicles may be ticketed or towed. The published fine for interfering with snow removal or winter maintenance is $150.

Unpaid parking tickets prevent approval. The exemption does not allow more than 48 continuous hours in the same spot, private-property parking or commercial motor vehicles such as trailers and recreational vehicles. For city construction blocking driveway access, email parkingadmin@markham.ca; the city says those arrangements are not charged against the ten exemptions. Contact the same office for exceptional needs after using the allocation.
