Planning your park visit

Which land records are included?

All 319 park-classified land parcels and all 331 destinations in the eight city ward-directory tables are included. Matching names are grouped into park sections.

Source: Markham official park inventory

Why are school fields and stormwater ponds not listed as parks?

The city gives these different land-use labels. This directory excludes those categories instead of assuming they are public recreation parks.

Source: Markham official park inventory

Why do some parks have an unnamed asset label?

The city did not supply a park name for that record. Its asset ID is retained so the missing name is visible and can be corrected later.

Source: Markham official park inventory

How is the displayed area calculated?

It adds the included parcel geometry areas for that section and divides square metres by 10,000. The result is hectares.

Source: Markham official park inventory

Does the map identify an accessible entrance?

No. The park layer provides land geometry, not a verified entrance or accessible path. The point is an approximate park-land centre.

Source: Markham official park inventory

Must dogs stay on leash in Markham parks?

Yes, except in designated off-leash dog areas. Follow the signs and keep dogs leashed while entering or leaving fenced areas.

Source: Markham dog bylaws and off-leash areas

Where are the permanent off-leash parks?

The city lists Boxgrove, Cornell Community, Huntington Park and Miller Avenue as its four permanent off-leash areas.

Source: Markham dog bylaws and off-leash areas

Are there separate small-dog rules?

The small-dog area is for dogs weighing 20 pounds or less and no taller than 12 inches at the shoulder.

Source: Markham dog bylaws and off-leash areas

Can one person bring several dogs to an off-leash area?

One handler may control no more than three dogs. A person aged 16 or older must accompany the dogs.

Source: Markham dog bylaws and off-leash areas

Can I bring dog treats or food into an off-leash area?

No. The posted code prohibits treats, food and glass containers. Handlers must stay inside the fence with their dogs and pick up waste.
