A short Toogood Pond walk without mixing up the addresses

Use 218 Carlton Road for the city’s Toogood Pond listing. Toogood Park at 58 Scriberras Road is a separate entry.

Let the pond be a short outing

A look at the pond and a slow walk can be enough when the afternoon is short. Toogood Pond suits that smaller plan. Use the Carlton Road address so everyone meets at the water, rather than confusing it with the separate Toogood Park.

The October 2023 foliage discussion ranged from Markham parks to York Region forests, Rouge and Kortright. The original poster also noted that rain had knocked leaves down. The lesson for late October is useful: choose a pleasant walk close enough that the trip is worthwhile even without perfect colour.

Use the pond address

Markham’s park inventory separates Toogood Pond at 218 Carlton Road from Toogood Park at 58 Scriberras Road. Save the right place before asking for directions.

Start with a short pond-side outing and turn back as needed. Do not promise a dry, fully cleared loop from a summer image. The city inventory lists washrooms, but does not confirm current seasonal opening times.

Keep the expectation small

A pond walk can offer fresh air and a change of scene without a long drive. Let the water and the time outside count even if the brightest leaves have already fallen. Choose a short first section and extend the walk only if everyone wants more.

A pond walk is a different promise from a hike

A February 2023 hill-training question drew the comment that Toogood Pond was a nice walk, while other replies sent people farther afield for elevation. In January 2025, another experienced walker made a similar distinction between local trail walking and a more demanding hike. Toogood’s value can be precisely that it does not need to become a workout.

Choose it for a short outdoor pause, a conversation or a look at the water. If one person in the group wants to cover kilometres and another wants to stand by the pond, agree on a modest shared visit before anyone arrives expecting a long route. A small plan gives you room to linger if conditions are pleasant.

The older fall-leaves discussion suggested Toogood beside Milne and longer drives out of Markham. Those choices involve different amounts of travel. A local stop is often easier to fit into a short afternoon, especially when daylight is shrinking. No particular day guarantees bright colour, so let the pond and the walk count even if many leaves have already fallen.

Send the pond address, not just the name

The city lists Toogood Pond at 218 Carlton Road. Toogood Park is a separate entry at 58 Scriberras Road. The names are close enough to cause a small but frustrating meeting error. Share the pond address and map link with anyone joining you.

The city lists washrooms at the pond. It lists playground and tennis amenities at the separate park. That inventory helps you choose the right destination, but does not give a late-October toilet opening schedule. If access to a toilet determines whether someone can join, settle that before leaving rather than relying on the presence of a symbol or a summer photograph.

Markham’s park rule requires pets on leash outside designated off-leash areas. Toogood Pond is not on that off-leash list. Keep the dog with the group and leave enough space for other walkers. For someone using a cane or stroller, assess the surface at the start and keep the return manageable. The retained historical pond image identifies the place, not today’s footing, leaf colour or opening status.
