V.U.nics Inc. is an established Canadian electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider specializing in high-reliability PCB assembly, precision electronics manufacturing, and system integration. Operating in Concord, Ontario since 2008, we support customers across the medical, defense, industrial, automotive, and commercial sectors. As an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer, we emphasize technical expertise, process control, and consistent workmanship throughout our manufacturing operations.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced PCB Rework Technician with demonstrated expertise in BGA rework, fine-pitch component replacement, and precision micro-soldering.
This is a specialized, hands-on technical position requiring excellent manual dexterity, advanced microscope proficiency, and the ability to perform complex component-level repairs on populated printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs).
The successful candidate will work with a variety of PCB technologies and must consistently demonstrate precision, sound technical judgment, and workmanship in accordance with applicable IPC standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform component-level PCB rework, including removal and replacement of BGAs, QFPs, QFNs, fine-pitch ICs, 0201 components, and other surface-mount devices.
- Perform BGA removal, site preparation, pad restoration, and component replacement using appropriate rework equipment.
- Execute precision micro-soldering, including lifted-pad repair, trace repair, jumper-wire installation, and fine-pitch solder joint restoration.
- Operate stereoscopic and digital microscopes for detailed inspection and active rework under magnification.
- Use hot-air and IR rework stations, precision soldering irons, and specialized rework tooling.
- Apply appropriate thermal profiles and rework techniques for leaded and lead-free solder processes.
- Interpret PCB assembly drawings, component datasheets, bills of materials, and technical work instructions.
- Inspect completed rework against applicable IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 workmanship requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of rework activities and inspection results.
- Follow established ESD, quality, and workplace safety procedures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must demonstrate practical experience in component-level PCB rework.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant PCB rework experience preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with BGA removal and replacement.
- Strong proficiency in micro-soldering and fine-pitch component rework.
- Ability to perform precision soldering and repairs under stereoscopic or digital microscopes.
- Experience using hot-air rework stations and precision soldering equipment.
- Practical experience with PCB pad restoration, trace repair, and jumper-wire repair.
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 standards.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, assembly documentation, and component datasheets.
- Experience working with both leaded and lead-free solder processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving skills.
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
- Current IPC certification, particularly IPC-7711/7721.
- Experience with advanced BGA rework systems.
- Experience working on complex, high-density PCB assemblies.
- Experience in high-reliability electronics manufacturing environments.
IMPORTANT: SPECIALIZED REWORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
This position is specifically focused on advanced PCB rework and component-level repair.
Experience limited to general electronics assembly, SMT machine operation, through-hole soldering, or
wave soldering will not, on its own, satisfy the technical requirements of this position.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a practical, hands-on rework skills assessment.
