About the Opportunity
Our client is a privately held investment firm that acquires and operates established Canadian businesses. The firm has a growing portfolio of operating companies and keeps adding to it.
This is a succession hire. Two tenured finance leaders are moving into part-time roles: a career controller with 30 years in the seat and a senior finance leader with a bank FP&A background. As Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of accounting and reporting across the portfolio while learning directly from both of them during the transition.
The role also gives you hands-on buy-side M&A exposure. You’ll work alongside the deal team on due diligence and lead the finance integration of new acquisitions. It’s a strong next step for a CPA who wants transaction experience while owning core finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day accounting and the monthly close across a multi-entity portfolio, including reconciliations and intercompany transactions
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reporting and variance commentary for each entity
- Lead and coach accounting staff across the portfolio, and partner with General Managers as their trusted finance advisor
- Support the M&A team on financial due diligence for prospective acquisitions
- Lead post-close finance integration, bringing new companies onto common systems, controls and reporting
- Drive process improvement, including ERP upgrades, AI and automation, and standardized policies
- Manage external audits, tax filings and relationships with banks and insurers
What You Bring
- CPA designation
- 7+ years of progressive experience combining audit/assurance with senior finance roles in manufacturing and/or distribution
- Strong command of full-cycle accounting, A/P, A/R and government remittances
- Comfort working across multiple ERP systems and managing competing entity deadlines
- Clear communicator with non-finance leaders
- Curious, driven and eager to grow into a larger finance leadership role
- Access to a vehicle for frequent travel across the GTA
Nice to Have
- Multi-entity or portfolio accounting experience
- Exposure to due diligence or post-acquisition integration
- Hands-on use of AI tools in accounting workflows
